I have been to many spas, and find that Modern Elegance beats everyone of them! The customer service is personable, professional and very accommodating. The spa's colors, lighting, theme and music are very suiting. I love the spa waiting room sitting along side a fireplace and falling into their plush couches. There is an overhead shower waiting for me after every service if I chose to do so. The products used for services are high quality. The quality of service along with the technician's compassion soothed my soul. Each technician is very personable, friendly and VERY accommodating. I have felt very welcomed and comforted every time that I have called to make an appointment, to the service I was given. Hot and Iced Tea, Coffee, Water, Chocolates and scrumptious treats were always offered. The prices are very reasonable too! If I could, I would give Modern Elegance 10 more stars! Thank you, and I look forward to having more services! =)

I followed my stylist to this new place that has been open a short time. It is first class ALL the way. They offer everything from pedicures to facials to massages. I love the fact that it really has the feeling of a spa, fireplace, candles, big leather couches and complimentary beverages and chocolate. I was truly impressed.

Brazilian waxing - I never thought this was a service I would use...or like, for that matter, but this was done with an eye toward my comfort and my privacy. I absolutely loved it and will definitely go back again and again!

I was referred to this Salon from a girl at the front desk of the Hilton. Needless to say it was AMAZING! I have hard hair to deal with and they made it so easy. I will now be traveling to Eugene to get my hair done at Modern Elegance.

Beauty is bliss at stylish hair salon, spa

With her feet propped up and her head resting easily on the cushioned curve of the salon’s sink, an elderly customer closes her eyes and relaxes comfortably while a stylist washes her hair.
The sinks and the chairs are ergonomic, designed with the comfort of the customer and stylist in mind, says Devin Pratt, who, along with wife Nadine, owns Modern Elegance Salon & Spa at Oakway Landing on Oakway Road.
As he shows people around the facility, Devin Pratt notes the many pieces of salon and spa equipment engineered with ergonomic principles in mind.
The Pratts moved into what previously was Bello Spa inside the former Reed & Cross building, then expanded their facility to include a spacious nine-chair styling salon.
At their workstations, the stylists have the advantage of natural and artificial lighting to judge if a hair rinse or tint is exactly what the customer has requested.
Such radiant lighting overhead is a contrast to the rest of the building, where rooms are bathed in a dim glow to help customers relax and unwind after a busy day, or to extend those blissful moments after a massage or pedicure.
Muted earth tones on the walls and carpets seem to whisper it’s OK for customers to spend a little time lingering. No one is rushing them out to make room for the next customer.
One customer sits, gazing into the soothing, albeit faux, flames of the fireplace, sipping a cool beverage after the spa’s therapist has completed her massage.
The pedicure room, with four state-of-the-art European Touch pedicure spa chairs, makes it easy for a few friends to arrange social time together while they dangle their feet in whirlpool foot baths. Actually, this is a popular activity, says Devin Pratt, who manages the business, while Nadine, a stylist, maintains a large group of faithful clientele.
Other clients might want to stay for manicures, complete with gel nails, a relatively new plastic nail technology that has no odor and is nontoxic. Devin Pratt says the spa’s esthetician uses all “green” products as well.
Modern Elegance Salon & Spa also offers wedding services. For instance, salon cosmetologists have taken their equipment to the Beacon House and Whispering Oaks to style hair, apply makeup and give manicures to the bridal party. That special service evolved in response to brides-to-be who told the Pratts they wished they didn’t have to hop into cars after having their hair, nails and makeup done.
Reaching out to community is important to the couple. They both grew up and attended schools in Creswell, and recently purchased Devin’s childhood home there.
Despite the area’s economic downturn, Devin Pratt feels confident the couple are providing a valuable service to the community. The quality and enthusiasm of the surrounding Oakway neighborhood has impressed the Pratts. “It’s truly nurturing,” says Devin Pratt, noting that the retailers are committed to helping each other succeed.
At the Oakway Gym next door, exercises often read about the salon and spa’s special services and then frequently come over to look around the facility, which opened earlier this year. Similarly, the Pratts recommend the gym to their clientele.
The Pratts feel the same about the stylists and technicians at their business. “Our success is their success,” Devin Pratt says.
In fact, Modern Elegance Salon & Spa cosmetologists and technicians are independent contractors who rent space from the Pratts and have brought with them many of their own clients — men as well as women.
Devin Pratt estimates half of their customers come in for hairstyling; the other half, spa treatments. “We are living our dream,” Devin Pratt effuses.
The Pratts want to help others live their dreams, too. On June 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the couple will donate to any unemployed person a free haircut, chair massage and nail care.
The unemployed “need confidence,” he says. “I’ve been there. This is a tough market.”
Hours at Modern Elegance Salon & Spa are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
